As some of you will know, it is National Poetry Week here in England and so I thought I\u2019d share a couple of poems that I have seen make a difference for people. I have used these both when working with groups and when coaching individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Risks (Anonymous)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>To weep, is to risk appearing sentimental.<br>To reach out to another, is to risk involvement.<br>To expose feelings, is to risk exposing our true selves.<br>To put your ideas, your dreams, before the crowd is to risk loss.<br>To love, is to risk not being loved in return.<br>To live, is to risk dying.<br>To hope, is to risk despair.<br>To try at all, is to risk failure.<\/p><p>Only the person who risks is free.<\/p><p>But risks must be taken,<br>Because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.<br>The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.<br>They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they simply cannot learn, change, feel, grow, love, live\u2026<br>Chained by their attitudes they are slaves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Untitled (Nadine Stair)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>If I had my life to live over, I\u2019d dare to make more mistakes next time. I\u2019d relax, I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans.<\/p><p>I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I\u2019d have fewer imaginary ones. You see, I\u2019m one of those people who lived sensibly and sanely, hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I\u2019ve had my moments, and if I had to do it over again, I\u2019d have more of them. In fact, I\u2019d try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.<\/p><p>I\u2019ve been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have. If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you have a favourite poem that could be used in such a way?
